A baby’s weight gain is a good indicator of the child’s growth and of successful breastfeeding. However, it is also an issue that can be a source of concern for parents and health professionals. When weight gain is perceived as insufficient, this concern can undermine maternal confidence and call into question her ability to feed her child. This often leads to the early introduction of supplements or discontinuation of exclusive breastfeeding, or even complete cessation of breastfeeding. Appropriate support and information can help overcome any doubts and effectively support parents in their breastfeeding plans.
You can read more about this topic at La Leche League Great Britain. The Child Growth Tracker app is useful for comparing a baby’s weight gain with the appropriate WHO growth curve.
