IBFAN (International Baby Food Action Network) 40 years old! It’s a milestone, 40 years of tireless and often invisible work behind the scenes of institutions to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

IBFAN is the initiators of the 1981 WHO Code (International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes), the first consumer and family protection code.

Message from Marta Trejo, IBFAN Latin and Central America

On the occasion of IBFAN’s 40th anniversary, to all those who have supported us: On 12 October 2019, IBFAN celebrates 40 years of relentless struggle to defend the rights of mothers and their children, protecting their right to breastfeeding and to a healthy life.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your courageous contribution, for your responsible commitment and for dedicating your lives to making this world a better place.

Without you, we would not have achieved so many important conquests and would not be able to achieve what we are going to achieve in the future.

Our network is a living being, inspired by the energy of its members. In our work, we experience the laughter, the efforts, the battles, the skills, the lessons… of those who carry IBFAN in their hearts and in their daily lives.

Every step of the way we remember the pioneers, the tenacious and fierce colleagues who have been weaving the network for years, even those whom life has snatched away from us without permission – like Gloria and Amura – and the enthusiastic new generations who are joining in the building of this special, wonderful and unique network.

Happy 40 years!

We admire you, we love you, we embrace you,

Marta Trejos and the IBFAN LAC (Latin America & Caribbean) Regional Coordination Team
